Silje Susanne Alvestad (University of Oslo) : Interdisciplinary research projects on fake news: Experiences from Fakespeak and NxtGenFake

In this presentation Dr. Alvestad will talk about her experiences with leading and working in interdisciplinary research projects on fake news and (other types of) disinformation. She will discuss the main findings from the Fakespeak project (2020-2025) devoted to the language of human-written fake news and present some initial data and results from the NxtGenFake project (2025-2029) devoted to AI-powered disinformation and Large Language Models (LLMs). The disciplines involved in her projects are linguistics, media and communication studies, and computer science. 


Short biography :  Silje Susanne Alvestad is an Associate Professor in Russian at the Language and Intelligence Academy at the Norwegian Defence University College and a Researcher at the University of Oslo. She was trained within Slavic languages and linguistics, but since 2019 she has been concerned with the language of fake news, currently with a special focus on AI-generated disinformation.
